"I give myself medicine!"

Yesterday I got a phone call from Parker at work. (By the way....parker never calls me at the office. He usually just leaves me a voicemail and then I call him back). I was with a patient at the time, but since he NEVER calls me at work I decided I'd better take the call. I get on the phone:
P: "How much medicine was in that bottle of ibuprofen?"
H: "I don't know, I think it was a quarter full.....why?"
It turns out, Caleb had woke up Parker that morning by saying, "Wook Daddy, I give myself medicine!" He then handed Parker the empty bottle of children's berry flavored ibuprofen. YIKES!! Thank goodness it was almost empty.

You see, the night before Caleb had a fever and at about 4:00 in the morning, I had given him some ibuprofen because he had a temperature of 102.2. I had opened the medicine basket and pulled out the 2 bottles of ibuprofen and set them on the counter. Then it hit me....
H: "Parker......is the other bottle of ibuprofen still in the bathroom?"
P: "What other bottle."
H: "I got BOTH bottles of ibuprofen out last night. One was bubble gum flavored and it was half-full. The other was berry flavored and it was 1/4 full."

I then had to hang up and get back to my patient. I told Parker to call Caleb's doctor and that I'd call him back after I dismissed my patient. Ten minutes later I called Parker back.

It turns out that the other bottle of ibuprofen was found in the trash.....empty. Yep. The little stinker drank both bottles. Now I know you're all thinking what I'm thinking.....How did he open the childproof lid? Oh. Well didn't you know? Childproof lids only work if mom screws them on all the way! Yeah. Oops. I guess in my 4:00 am half-asleep state I didn't screw it all the way shut. What I can't figure out is how he opened the bubblegum flavored bottle. I never opened that one. It must have not been shut tight either, although I don't see how....Anyway.

Parker called poison control. (By the way....do YOU have that number in your cell phone? I know I didn't) and they figured out how much he drank vs. how much he weighs (thank goodness the boy's a tank) and they told us we didn't have to do anything. They said to give him some food, and something to drink. He could get a tummy ache later, and possibly a little drowsy, but he only drank about half the toxic level for his weight. Phew. Not the kind of panic you wanna have while at work. Thank goodness we didn't have to take him to the ER and pump his stomach or something.

Moral of this story: Screw those child-proof lids tight!

New Family Pictures!

Well, we've been WAY overdue, but we finally got some new family pictures. I can't even tell you how pleased I am with them.....especially considering Caleb was completely impossible to work with. I'm surprised ANYTHING turned out. The family group pictures are not entirely my favorite, cuz the few where Caleb was actually smiling, Angie was either sleeping or being a bobble-head. But that's allright. We probably should've waited till she could hold her head up....but I just didn't want to put it off any longer. We'll get more in a year.

Our photographer was my sister-in-law's (Amanda) mother: Suzette Stokes. She's truly gifted, and the price was right! We were so lucky that we had such beautiful weather as well! We took the pictures last Friday (March 19). It was warm enough that I didn't have to worry about my baby freezing in the outdoor air. We loved working with Suzette, and are looking forward to doing it again.

We also got Angie's baby pictures, and she was a smiley happy thing for the WHOLE thing! I couldn't be more pleased with her. I sware every picture turned out so good, I want to frame each one of them! This photo shoot was a great birthday present!

The pictures are in a slide show, because there are just too many!

A Grove/Stampede birthday!

Last summer, Parker and his dad won second place in a golf tournament in Burley. The prize they won was 4 courtside tickets to an Idaho Stampede game, and 2 hotel rooms at The Grove.

Awesome seats aren't they?!!!

We got to sit by the team owners, and Parker visited with them throughout the game. They even gave us t-shirts towards the end of the game! But what was funny was the mascott. You see in the picture that he drove this truck around during time-outs. Well one time he sprayed us with some silly-string. So Parker gathered it all up and then the next time the mascot drove by, Parker threw the wad of silly-string at him. .........
..... he immediately slammed on his brakes and stood up like Parker was trying to pick a fight with him. Then he ran over and sprayed him on the head with the silly-string. It got everywhere! I got a little video after it all happened, you can watch below. It was pretty funny.
We arrived to the game so early, that a couple girls asked us to play in a time-out game on the court. We had to compete against another couple for a prize. There was a suitcase of clothes, which we both had to put on....and then we each had to make a basket. The first team to get all the clothes on and make both baskets won a free night in a jacuzzi suite at the comfort inn. I got a video of that one too! And as you can see by the pictures below.... we won!! I made that basket on the first shot! (we all knew Parker would make his shot).
I had such a fun birthday! And I still have one more post~!!

Snap!

One of Caleb's new favorite movies is Mary Poppins. At first he only seemed interested in the animated part....but now he really enjoys the whole thing. And I've heard him singing some of the songs to himself. Especially "I love to laugh." His favorite part of that song is when Burt sings, "Some laugh too fast......some only blast...........PAAH!" He'll also dance around the house kicking his legs in the air like "step-in-time." Well today he came running up to me and said, "Mommy I snapped!!" Sure enough he did. I even got a video!

How amazing is that?!! My three-year-old can snap his fingers! Believe it or not, he was so excited that he'd figured out how to snap, that he continued snapping his fingers ALL DAY. He snapped so much that he wore a blister on his finger, and then this evening it ripped. OUCH!
Okay, so the funny part is that when I got home from work he kept trying to show me a "freckle" on his finger. I really wasn't sure what he was talking about, but I couldn't see anything (now I know why.....it was just a blister....white). He said, "the freckle hurts.....but it's okay I can do this one." and he started snapping with the other hand.
He wouldn't let me clip that flap of skin either. He was HYSTERICAL! He wouldn't let me touch his finger at all, except to put a band-aid on it. So that's what we did. Later on he pulled the band-aid off and then actually ripped the flap of skin himself. And surprisingly, it didn't hurt. He came up to me and said "Wook mommy! I wripped it by myself!" So there you go. I didn't have to clip it after all.

Okay....this isn't really related, but today Angie had THE WORST blow-out diaper of her life! It went so far up her back it was almost to her neck. Augh gross! Parker decided he needed a picture, so here it is:
She'll be so happy we took this picture once she's a teenager. The person who invents a diaper that doesn't allow blow-outs up the back WILL HAVE MY BUSINESS!! She stains so many onesies! They must be hand-washed with soap and scrubbing before you throw them in the laundry, otherwise it will stain yellow. You CAN'T just throw those things in the wash. It's not enough. And even sometimes hand washing is not enough. Ick. How many years till she's potty-trained?......oh right she's only 8 weeks.

Two Months Old!

BEFORE I FORGET! I revised the "Caleb Says" post cuz I remembered something else that was funny (what am I talking about....everything he says is funny!!). So re-read that one if you'd like.

On a different note, I hope nobody's sick of me posting pictures of baby Angie every time. She's kinda my life right now. I just can't believe my little six-pounder is already getting some baby fat and talking to me! She loves attention! And she tries so hard to interact with you. But most of the time, her mouth is moving but no sound is coming out. But then sometimes she figures it out and starts cooing. It's so cute!

Some things about Angie:
- She loves to be swaddled. (even now....I thought she'd be grown out of it by now, but not so. After she's had about 30 minutes to an hour of awake time, she starts to fuss. And then I just wrap her up in her blanket, and lie her in bed or her bouncy seat and she falls right to sleep).
- She loves her brother. Caleb always comes and talks to her, "Hi baby!!" and he'll even coo at her like we do.....which is REALLY cute. I'll have to get a video of it, cuz I know he mostly does it cuz he's seen us do it. But regardless of the reason, she LOVES it. She just watches him whenever he's close to her.
- If you let her cry long enough, her voice starts to tremble and she has the MOST HEARTBREAKING cry you'll ever hear. (I'll have to get a video of that too....prepare yourself though, it's VERY sad).
- She loves her daddy. I don't know how I can tell this. It's the way she looks at him or something. And there are times when I just can't calm her down, but daddy knows how. And when I feed her......she always holds in her last burp and I will spend upwards of fifteen minutes trying to get it out. Then I pass her to her daddy, and whoop it comes right out.
- She has beautiful long eyelashes. Just like her brother. This is one feature I don't think my children will ever have a problem with. Parker and I always joke that Caleb's eyelashes go half-way down his cheeks. And it seems like Angie's eyelashes are getting longer each day. She's so beautiful.
- Angie HATES the taste of spit-up. Every time she spits-up after a burp she gets this disgusted face and then cries.
- She is EXTREMELY long. Her torso is so long, most of her onesies bunch around the legs because I have to stretch them just to button them up. Her hands and feet are also long. I couldn't believe how long her feet were when she was born. They looked like they were half the length of her leg.
- She loves her bath. (although I confess, it is much harder to remember to bathe your children when you have two of them.) But when she does get her bath, she never cries. She's almost getting too long for the kitchen sink. When she straightens her legs, she almost bonks her head on the other end of the sink .

I'll have to post some more videos soon. I just can't believe my baby has grown so much already.

Caleb says....

Well, This post is about two weeks late....but I've been thinking that I need to write down some of the hilarious things that Caleb has said lately.

(during a tickle fight) "Daddy we don't eat arms!"

Also, the other day we had family home evening about temples. We told Caleb that mommy and daddy got married in the temple, and that our family would be together forever. Well for the next few days Caleb would be babbling about the temple. He'd point to the picture of the temple on the wall and say, "I'm getting married at the temple."
I'd ask him, "Really?"
"Yeah, mom, I'm getting married to YOU."
I'd say, "No Caleb, mommy is already married to daddy. You'll have to get your own girl."
He looked at me for a second....and said, "Grandma!"
I laughed. Not exactly. Poor kid. The only women in his life is mom and grandma.

Then yesterday, he was carrying around my old scriptures. (He likes to pretend they're his suitcase, cuz it's just his size). About ten minutes later he brought me my Book of Mormon without the cover. "Look what I did mommy..."
(gasp)
"Caleb you ripped it! Those were mommy's scriptures!"
"I'm sorry mommy.....accidents always happen."

But the best was last week. When Caleb goes #2 in the bathroom, he always has to let us know, "Mommy I went POOP!!" and then we come and wipe his bum. Well, last week we were watching that new NBC TV show "Parenthood" (which by the way I am really enjoying) and we hear, "I went POOP!" So Parker goes in to wipe his behind. As Caleb is bent over he says to Parker,
"Poop always happens."
Yes, he said it. Parker and I spent the next half-hour laughing. Parker was laughing so hard he started crying. Kids say the darndest things don't they? I can't BELIEVE he came up with that on his own.

Angie's Blessing

I can't believe how much my baby girl has grown already! She's seven weeks old, and her clothes are finally starting to fit. And her newborn onesies are getting quite tight. She's a week away from being two months old, and I think she'll finally fit into some 0-3 month clothes...(now I just have to go and get some).
I really do just wish I could take her picture every time I change her clothes. It's so much fun dressing up a girl!

On Sunday (March 7th) we did Angie's baby blessing. She wore her dress that her grandma made, and her cousin Camrey's bow. The blanket you see her lying on is actually a replica of a blessing blanket that my great, great grandmother made and brought to the States from Scotland. This particular one was made by my Granny Haymore. The actual blanket is in a shadow-box at my Grandma Willis's house.
The tule on her dress made it extremely difficult to hold her. She kept slipping out of my hands and sliding down my lap. But she looked beautiful, and Parker gave her the most beautiful blessing I have ever heard. I should have written it down, but Caleb was kinda keeping my hands full as well. I guess I can always remember the feeling.

Caleb was not very happy to have his picture taken. He, of course, didn't get a nap and so by the end of the day he was DONE. But here's the latest 4 generation picture. Lyons boys. Grandpa Bryant, Paul, Parker and Caleb.
And 4 generations of girls: Grandma Zola Willis, Nancy Harris, Heather Lyons, and baby Angie.
We had quite a few people come by for the blessing. Parker's entire family was there, except Robyn and her family (they live in Las Vegas). None of my siblings could make it, but my parents were there, Grandma willis, and my aunt and uncle Dean and Eileen, as well as their daughter Ashley and her husband, Lander. I must say, it felt pretty good to show off our new home. We worked all day Saturday to make sure it was clean and nice for everybody.
